How much does a landing page cost?

A landing page is a critical component of any online marketing campaign. It's the page on a website where potential customers "land" after clicking on an advertisement, a link in an email or it can be from a search engine result. On this page, the audience is given very specific information and from it, they'll decide whether to take action, such as making a purchase, subscribing, or filling out a form.

A well-crafted landing page can make all the difference in converting visitors into customers, and copywriting is a critical component of creating a landing page that resonates with your target audience.

What are the factors that influence the cost of copywriting for a landing page?

The copywriting cost of a landing page can vary widely depending on several factors, some of which can be found here:

1. Expertise and Experience: The level of expertise and experience of the copywriter is an important factor in pricing. Experienced copywriters with a proven track record of creating high-converting landing pages will likely charge more than less experienced copywriters.

2. Length and Complexity: The length and complexity of the landing page can also impact pricing. Longer landing pages that require more copy and research will cost more than shorter, simpler pages.

3. Target Audience: The target audience is an essential factor to consider when crafting a landing page. Copywriters need to understand the audience's needs, preferences and pain points to create messaging that resonates with them.

Researching and analysing the target audience takes time and effort which will affect pricing. Obviously, if the client is able to provide background information and help reduce the amount of research needed, this will affect the pricing in a positive way!

4. Revisions and Edits: The number of revisions and edits required for the copy can also impact pricing. Some copywriters charge by the hour, while others may charge a flat rate that includes a specific number of revisions. I tend to price by the project and I always build time in for revisions and amendments.

5. Copywriting Package: Copywriting packages may vary depending on the level of service required. Some copywriters offer a basic package that includes a simple landing page with minimal research, while others provide more comprehensive packages that include audience research, multiple revisions and A/B testing.

How much does copywriting cost for a landing page?

Well, it depends on the factors above, but as a rough outline, copy for a basic, relatively short landing page with minimal research may start at around £500, whereas a more complex landing page with extensive research, longer copy and more bells and whistles can be between £800 and £1000.

These are just indicative prices though, as each project is costed based on the needs of the business, the complexity and the goal of the landing page.

Whatever the project entails, there’s always discovery, research, documentation and planning to do, as well as the creating of copy, headlines and subheads and the all-important Call to Action (‘CTA’).

When I price, I always make a commitment to my clients that if I’ve overestimated the time it takes to complete a project and I do it quicker than anticipated, then I’ll reduce my final invoice (and this does happen a lot – as I’m honest!). But on the flip side, if I’ve underestimated the time and it takes me longer, then that’s at my cost, not at the client's cost. I do this because it’s the way I’d like to be treated if the roles were reversed!

How much does it cost to design and develop a landing page?

It's important to remember, though, that copywriting is just one component of creating a high-converting landing page. Design, user experience, structure, page optimisation and SEO are also crucial factors to consider.

I work with a couple of amazing design and development agencies, one of them being

21 Degrees Digital in Leeds. After speaking to the team there, they kindly gave me some indicative prices for landing pages for this article.

They advised that the creation and development of a basic landing page will start at around £1000, whereas a longer and more complex landing page, ‘with all the bells and whistles we can throw at it,’ can reach up to £4000. And bells and whistles it would have, believe me! If you'd like to know more about them, click on the image - as they say on their homepage, they make COOL SH!T!

The other agency I work closely with is Mint Sauce Media from my hometown, York. This is a boutique design agency creating sites on the WordPress platform, owned by Chris and Jen. They create some beautiful sites and also offer design and branding services. Have a look at some of their stunning work by clicking on their logo.

Jen says they don't get asked very often for standalone projects for landing pages as not enough people know their huge value. She says that pricing is obviously dependent on the amount of content required for the page and the complexity of the design and functionality integrations, but their prices start at £250 and upwards for design and development of a landing page on WordPress.

Investing in a high-quality landing page can really pay off in the long run.

Imagine you’re selling a course to high-net-worth business leaders, and you’re pricing your course at £800 and targeting sales of 250 courses. That’s £200k – so £3-5K for an all-singing, all-dancing landing page and professionally written copy is a great investment and you’d get amazing ROI.

On the flip side, if you’re selling Canva courses for £25 and targeting 250 sales, you’d not want to be spending the same amount on copy or landing page creation.

What you spend is all relative to what you're selling, the value and cost of your offering and what action you want your audience to take.

In summary, the cost of a landing page can range from around £750 to £5000. It all comes down to the complexity of the page, the length and what elements are integrated into it. A landing page is an excellent tool for converting visitors into customers. It's very focused on one goal, without the distractions of a normal webpage and is often personalised to a very specific audience.
